A Healthy & Fit Minnesota- Roundtable Discussion
A Healthy & Fit Minnesota - Roundtable Discussion
Featuring Dr. Pamela Peeke, Senior Advisor to the United States Surgeon General & Author of “The Hunger Fix”
We live in a world where the obesity rate has doubled since 1980, and chronic diseases—most of which are related to obesity—cause sixty percent (60%) of deaths globally. In Minnesota, sixty-three percent (63%) of adults are obese or over weight resulting in related medical costs totaling more than $1.3 billion.
In an effort to raise awareness regarding the obesity pandemic and its adverse effects on our health care system the Dakota County Regional Chamber of Commerce is hosting “A Healthy & Fit Minnesota - Roundtable Discussion.” The discussion will include the kick-off of FIT Minnesota, a coalition of Minnesota-based health clubs and partner organizations with a shared goal of increasing the physical activity of all Minnesotans.
The FIT Minnesota coalition includes:
Anytime Fitness
LifeTime Fitness
Snap Fitness
The YMCA-Twin Cities
International Health, Racquet & Sportsclub Association and their local members
FIT Minnesota believes that increased physical activity will lower health care costs, increase productivity and improve the quality of life for all Minnesotans. The coalition will advocate for common-sense incentives that encourage every Minnesotan to be more active and get fit.
