Transportation Candidate Forum
Join us to hear from transportation professionals about projects and funding needs in Dakota County and to discuss these issues with candidates running for the state legislature.
Minnesota’s transportation system of roads, bridge, transit, rail, ports and waterways and air infrastructure forms the backbone of the state’s economy and supports the everyday of lives of each Minnesotan.
Recognizing the need to invest in aging transportation infrastructure, the Minnesota legislature has appropriated increased funding from the general fund to improve the transportation system in recent years. At the federal level, Congress reached a bipartisan agreement, passing the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) with historic levels of federal transportation funding. The bill includes a five-year transportation authorization which Minnesota can benefit from if the state is positioned to match federal funds and compete with other states for grant funding, a decision that was left on the table in 2022.
The 2023 Legislative Session will be critical for improving the safety and effectiveness of roads, bridges and transit in Dakota County and throughout the region. The level of funding from the state and federal government will impact business development, safety and the quality of life in the area.
