South St. Paul LOOP Bus Service Begins May 24, 2017
Operated by DARTS
In response to the growing need to have affordable and convenient bus options for the city’s residents, DARTS worked with partners to design and launch a LOOP circulating bus service in South St. Paul. The South St. Paul LOOP service begins operation on May 24, 2017, running Wednesdays from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. See schedule at https://www.dartsconnects.org/transportation
This transportation service offers both planned stops on an hourly loop schedule and the flexibility to request a stop nearby. The LOOP will pick up riders at five senior housing facilities and take them to nearby grocery stores, neighbors, inc., pharmacy, restaurants, and the library. This route also introduces the opportunity to link two communities, as it intersects with the existing DARTS West St. Paul LOOP route, allowing residents from either community to travel the other community’s routes. All LOOP buses are lift equipped and provide door-to-door service. The service is supported via community contributions and riders are requested to pay a $2, ride-all-day fare.
The ceremony is emceed by the River Heights Chamber of Commerce. South St. Paul Mayor James P. Francis (confirmed), and Dakota County Commissioner Kathleen Gaylord (invited) and DARTS will make brief remarks. Sheri O’Connell, a senior residing in the River Heights building, commented that “The LOOP is an antidote to our prayers.”
Thank you to sponsors of the South St. Paul LOOP: The Saint Paul Foundation, ProRx Pharmacy, Bolton & Menk, and Jerry & Sandy Meyer.
