Mentors are always needed for children in the Dakota County community at Kids 'n Kinship. There are currently 38 children waiting to be matched with a supportive adult, and 22 of those youth are boys.
What it's all about:
Kids 'n Kinship is a 51 year old non-profit organization that matches children, who have a need for an additional supportive relationship with carefully screened adult volunteers. Volunteers spend one hour per week with the child out in the community or at school.
Kids 'n Kinship match individuals (21+), couples, or families with youth ages 5-16 in need of positive role model.
- We encourage low / no-cost activities like playing a board game, sledding, taking a trip to a park, bike riding, baking cookies, playing catch or going to the library
- We provide training and ongoing support and offer discounted passes to area attractions and events to make activities affordable
- Mentoring matches are made based on compatible personalities, ages and interests as well as preferences of both the volunteer mentor and the youth and parent/guardian.
Through their Mentor relationship, the child will form a long-term friendship with a caring adult, receive positive attention and develop the sense of self-worth that is essential to successfully function in life.
You can make a difference in the life of a child or teen living in Apple Valley, Burnsville, Eagan, Farmington, Lakeville, or Rosemount.
