2014 Story of Korea

The event is sponsored by AllThatStory America, in association with the University of Minnesota and is also supported by a variety of Korean experts from Korea, including the Jang-mi Korean Dance & Drum here. Especially, the 2-hour performance consists of about 3 pieces, moving from a traditional instrument and dance to the contemporary, B-Boying. Exquisite handmade costumes, mesmerizing live orchestra music, and world-class playing skill transport you to another world. The timeless stories are easy to understand, and bring joy and inspiration to children and adults of all backgrounds. Hangtae Cho, professor of Korean literature, Asian Dept. of languages and literatures, U of M pleased to welcome The National Orchestra of Korea to Minnesota, wrote: ?I am thrilled that we have been chosen to host such a spectacular performance.? It is a privilege to have such an extraordinary display of a traditional Korean music and dance here in our communities.? Linda Andrean, Dept. administrator welcomed this performance to Minnesota, saying: ?We delight to have the performances and lectures with audiences. The culture and rich history of Korea come to life in their renowned and acclaimed performances including lectures.? One of the elements that make this performance so extraordinary is the music. The National Orchestra of Korea consists of ancient Korean instruments like the Gayageum (Korean zither with twelve strings), Geomungo (Korean musical instrument with six strings), Daegeum (a large bamboo transverse flute), Piri ( Korean double reed instrument), Ajaeng (Korean string instrument. It is a wide zither with strings made of twisted silk), and including strings, percussion, woodwinds. Korean instruments with their distinct tones and styles create a unique new sound and it is a rare and wonderful opportunity for the people of Minnesota to experience this incredible art form.?
