SUMMARY:Perspectives In Human Trafficking
DESCRIPTION:Argosy will host the Fifth Annual Sustainability Conference on Thursday\, February 20\, at the Eagan Community Center. This year's theme is perspectives on human trafficking and will incorporate The Spotlight Series: Where Alumni Shine\, featuring Argosy alumna. Other speakers include John Choi form the Ramsey County District Attorney\, Amy Klobuchar video message\, and Chad Weinstein from Ethical Business Leaders\n\n\n\nThere is trafficking in Minnesota for the sex industry\, but also for labor purposes. Many trafficked people are placed in-state through "labor providers"\, i.e. outsourcing firms hired to provide workers for businesses\, fields and factories. The demand for trafficked people is reinforced by the North Dakota oil sand industry. This is an illegal business. It tarnishes other businesses\, gobbles up public resources\, and endangers us all. Our conference wants to raise public awareness\, but then progress to identification\, reporting and action. Special afternoon training sessions for human services\, law enforcement\, community and non-profit groups and business will be held. The business session features Sir Patrick Atkinson\, who will speak on how to discern if you are using trafficked labor either here or abroad. We hope to see you for some or all of the day. https://sustainability2014.eventbrite.com/
