Legislative Breakfast: Sweeping New Rules for Sick Time Gain Speed
Sweeping New Rules for Sick Time Gain Speed
Join us on Friday, March 4 for a discussion on the proposed Sick and Safe Leave legislation introduced during the 2015 Legislative Session which requires all Minnesota employers to provide employees with paid sick and safe time. The proposed legislation would also expand the coverage of existing pregnancy and parenting leave laws and increase the amount of civil penalties that may be imposed on employers for violating such laws. If enacted into law, this proposed legislation would have a significant impact on all Minnesota employers - especially on small businesses - they are not exempt in this proposal. Additionally local units of government are also taking up this issue and a statewide preemption effort is underway to block these mandates.
This proposed legislation would require all employers in Minnesota to provide paid sick and safe time (hereinafter referred to as paid sick leave) to their employees. Even those employers who already provide paid sick leave benefits to their employees would need to review their sick leave policies and practices (and pay records) to ensure compliance with this law.
Our speakers include Senator Sandy Pappas (confirmed), author of Senate File No. 481 and Senator Karin Housley (invited), both of which serve on the Senate Commerce Committee.

Senator Sandy Pappas, DFL, District 65

Senator Karin Housley, R, District 39
